I made my first art purchase five years ago. Two boards made up a diptych, which if you remember from Art History class is exactly that – one art object made up of two pieces. The artist was a friend, finishing a studio art degree, and I really loved her modern work. I loved it so much that I paid a little money every month for a year to buy that first piece!
Then, after a cross country transition around that same time, I owned just a bed from my mom’s garage, the clothes from one suitcase, and that piece of art. To be honest, it completed my tiny room in a house full of girlfriends at different life stages. And isn’t it so interesting that art can do that – complete a room, serve as the center of conversation, or simply fill an empty space above the couch?
As we aim to get more and more real over here on the blog about real home and real entertaining, I’ll be introducing you to real art (read: interesting, fresh, affordable) so you don’t have to scroll through massive art websites on the internet just to fill that space above the couch. Enjoy my first pick – Kim Jones.
And finally, I’d love to know – where do you source art? Friends? Etsy? Estate Sales? Let’s hear it!
