Between balancing work and a personal life it can be really easy to forget to set aside time for ourselves. Often times we let ourselves slide all the way down to the bottom of our priorities list because life gets busy and we want to be there for the people around us. 

But here’s the thing, if you’re not showing up for yourself you’re probably going to have a hard time showing up for anyone else in your life. Most importantly you can’t give your best if you’re not taking care of yourself.

If you’re like most of the women I work with, you would love to spend more time caring for yourself but it just doesn’t happen. You might spend all week day dreaming about the amazing bubble bath you’re going to take Sunday evening and then Sunday rolls around and you’re at a friends house or running errands and the bath becomes another thing you daydream about the next week. 

Most of the time we have good intentions. We mean to take time for ourselves and to relax but somehow it just doesn’t seem to happen and that’s because we don’t actually plan it.

me timeWould you invite ten people over for a dinner party and then not be there when they arrive at your house? Of course not. So why would you tell yourself you are going to take time to read on the couch and take a bubble bath and then not show up? It’s because when we make plans with other people it keeps us accountable.

A great way to start following through with your self-care plans is to take them as seriously as plans with your best friend.

– Make the plan,

– Put it in your calendar,

– Show up as if someone else were expecting you to be there.

The more you do that the more second nature it will become for you to follow through with your self care plans. 

Making it a point to spend time caring for yourself is sure to affect you positively in all areas of your life. When you feel good it’s easier to do a better job, you’re more pleasant to be around, and you just give off awesome vibes. What are you waiting for? Grab your calendar and schedule some “you” time!
