TWIGGY INSPIRED HALLOWEEN MAKEUP

Processed with VSCOcam with b4 presetOkay, babes, we are in for a real treat today! As an adult Halloween can get a little…iffy, but thanks to our stellar Beauty Editor Breann, we are kicking off the first (of many!) adorable, totally-doable, office friendly halloween makeup tutorials! First up, the classic Twiggy! – xoxo, LK

October is finally here! It seems like fall is in full force as all the pumpkins begin to arrive at local markets and my pantry becomes stocked with bags of fun size Reese’s! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up and having the opportunity to experiment with new makeup, hairstyles, and costumes. For the entire month, I will be sharing a new Halloween look every week with tutorials! To kick us off in the right spirit, I wanted to start with a super easy makeup look that anyone can pull off with the products currently in your cosmetic bag.

Twiggy has long been a major icon in the modeling world, and a symbol from the swinging 60’s! This look is perfect for anyone who needs a last minute costume, or simply doesn’t want to spend too much time getting ready for a party.

IMG_6263STEP ONE:

To start, you’ll want to do your face makeup as usual by applying foundation, filling in brows, and concealing under your eyes.

STEP TWO:

Skip the bronzer and sweep a peachy blush across the apples of your cheeks.

IMG_6258STEP THREE:

Next, apply some black eyeliner across your lids near the lash line. Instead of curving up like a cat eye, you’ll direct the curve downward slightly. Following this step, you’ll want to apply a line with either your liner or black eyeshadow along the crease of your eye from the inner corner to the outside.

IMG_6256IMG_6257STEP FOUR:

Apply false eyelashes if needed, then take your liner and apply little lines mimicking lower eyelashes along your bottom lid.

IMG_6253STEP FIVE:

Top off with faux freckles (I used my gel brow filler), and a touch of some sweet pink gloss.

IMG_6255IMG_6254STEP SIX:

For your hair, simply take a deep side part and slick back into a tight bun. That is unless you really want to commit and get a pixie haircut!

You could easily pair this look with a simple sheath dress and bold jewelry, or pay homage to Twiggy’s London roots like I did with a classic trench coat! You know the drill – try it out & tag us! We (seriously!) would love to see your Twiggy looks, so make sure to use #LKBeauty and/or tag @laurenkelp

PSL BODY SCRUB

IMG_6183

Well, if you can’t drink it, use it as a scrub? Just kidding, but seriously – we might have just completed the perfect Pumpkin Spice Latte circle with this new DIY body scrub. It’s amazing, it does an amazing job, and you basically smell like Autumn all the time. Don’t hate the PSL until you’ve tried it 😉 – xoxo, LK

Hooray! Yesterday was the first official day of Fall! I couldn’t be more excited for the season of changing leaves, sweaters, and of course hot Starbucks! The Pumpkin Spice Latte is surely the biggest hit once September arrives. It’s warm flavor mixed with just the right amount of spice is the perfect addition to the changing season. While I myself am not a coffee drinker, whenever a friend orders a PSL I can’t help but want to bury my nose in their cup and keep the scent with me all day. Of course as a beauty junkie, I had to figure out how to replicate the scent in some sort of skin product. I am a huge advocate for scrubs, and making homemade ones is one of my favorite things to do! So after a bit of experimenting in the kitchen, I finally found the perfect balance to making your very own PSL Body Scrub!

INGREDIENTS:

– 1/2 cup ground coffee beans

– 2 tbs coconut oil

– 1 tsp pumpkin spice

– 1 tsp vanilla extract

– 1 tsp Himalayan pink salt

*Makes enough for one full body scrub use.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Simply combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix with a spoon.

2. Make sure your coconut oil is room temperature. It may not look all that appealing, but it smells like heaven!

3. Store in an airtight container in the fridge until use

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO USE:

1. For best results, take a hot shower so that your pores can open up and be ready for cleansing.

2. I recommend stepping out of the water or turning it off to apply the scrub. Apply in circular motions all over your body, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes so it can soak up all the goodness from the coffee and coconut oil.

3. Rinse off and pat dry.

4. There will likely be some oil on the bottom of your shower, so take caution while stepping out not to slip!

5. Feel how amazing & soft your new PSL kissed skin feels!

The other great thing about this scrub is because of the amount of coconut oil, it isn’t dry, and can be easily be applied to dry skin as well! Just be sure you do it in the shower to avoid coffee grounds all over your floor. Again, apply in circular motions, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse off.

After my initial use of the PSL Body Scrub, I found myself back in the kitchen making more. Not only does it smell divine, your skin will fill silky smooth afterward. I am so excited to use this throughout the dry fall and winter seasons – I may even make some as little gifts for my girlfriends!

DIY NATURAL BERRY LIP BALM

Now that fall is finally upon us here in Arizona (yes, it took THIS long), we are super excited for sweater weather and breaking out all our favorite autumn color palettes. I always look forward to sporting a berry lip this time of year. It’s such a versatile color and looks fantastic on all skin tones. While I love browsing the makeup counters and adding to my endless collection of lip color, sometimes I get a little… well, nervous about all the chemicals and additives they contain. It’s never a bad idea to periodically swap out your products for a natural alternative. Here’s a fun and easy DIY for your own berry lip balm, and it only contains TWO ingredients!

IrZf82MVsMWH-7p9ek-28aa3SHsTV183wxXJt5ulT18You’ll of course want to start with fresh berries! For two small tins of balm, I use 2 raspberries and 2 blackberries. If you want a darker color, use 3 blackberres : 1 raspberry. If you want a pinker tone, use 3 raspberries : 1 blackberry.

The second ingredient is coconut oil. You’ll just need one teaspoon – make sure to scoop it out while still somewhat solid.

In a small bowl, smash the berries together and mix in with the coconut oil. It’ll be pretty lumpy, don’t worry!

Next, place your small bowl in the microwave for about 10 seconds until the coconut oil is liquified. Stir it all up real good, and pour through a mesh strainer into small containers to remove the seeds. If you don’t have one, no need to worry your balm will just have some bumps in it!

EjfscnoysV1FIVwwLtNlyMBmsIsp8usBi947Ej34Cy8Place your small containers in the fridge for about 30 minutes to cool the oil again until solid. The juice and the oil will separate, naturally. Simply rub your finger across the top when your ready to use. The warmth from your finger will help the ingredients mix on a top layer and you can apply as liberally as you like!
