BOHEMIAN BROOKLYN PROPOSAL

Boho Brooklyn ProposalBoho Brooklyn ProposalWhen my friend Clayton approached me about coordinating his proposal to Keeley last summer, I literally jumped for joy. These two are so fun and love each other so much, not to mention they’re both gorgeous!! Keeley has modeled for styled shoots with me in the past, so we told her this was simply a bohemian styled shoot in Brooklyn. Little did she know that when she arrived at the Desert Room at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, her man would be waiting for her.

We set the scene for the proposal with a stunning vintage runner from Patina Vintage Rentals set up amongst unique cacti and desert flowers. Keeley was pampered with hair and makeup by the talented Laura for Book Your Look (Keeley still thought that she was the model for a styled shoot) and dressed in a beautiful dress Clayton picked out, paired with jewelry from Austin designer Wild Air &Co. Once she arrived to the Botanical Gardens, Keeley was greeted with an incredibly vibrant bohemian bouquet crafted by Lindsay Rae Design and she walked to her groom-to-be. Clayton’s grandmother gave him her diamond for the ring, and he found the setting at Pippin Vintage Jewelry here in New York.

After dropping to one knee and giving her the beautiful ring, he also presented Keeley with a journal he had started six months prior, chronicling his love for her and all the steps he took to make this day perfect. There were mementos from their relationship including tickets from their first date in Central Park and playbills from shows they’d seen together. He also included letters to her from both of their parents, grandparents, and several of her close friends. As Keeley was reading the letter from her parents, her mom slipped in behind her.Not only that, Clayton had also arranged for Keeley’s sister and best friend from college to be there for this special day!

The invitations created by Laurel Writes for our “styled shoot” were actually printed invitations for Clayton and Keeley’s very real surprise engagement party for later that evening. We also had a custom “Congrats” poster that Good South made for the couple to keep as a memento. All of these wonderful details were captured by the talented Becka Pilmore of Pill Photography.

This refreshing color combo is the perfect twist for a bride considering the classic blush & gold palette, but with a bit more sass! A dreamy Elie Saab gown is paired with a watercolor invitation suite and a punchy grapefruit cocktail. Add sparkly jewels a fresh fruit cake for the perfect combination of modern glamour and laid back elegance.

NEW YEAR’S EVE WEDDING

nye_0026$!900xHAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR’S EVE! While, I have to admit, New Year’s Eve was one of my least favorite holidays (the pressure of planning the perfect night and the logistics can be a bit overwhelming), I have been singing a different tune the past two years. Today my husband and I celebrate our SECOND ANNIVERSARY! While I know that is a drop in the bucket in the long run, the past two years have been nothing short of magical, wonderful adventure (plus 4 moves, three states, and some other fun things). To celebrate, we are doing a little throw back at our glam New Year’s Eve wedding at the Chicago History Museum.

WEDDING DAY BRIDAL BEAUTY

IMG_1049Between wedding magazines, Pinterest boards, and suggestions from your friends, planning a wedding has become a full time job – even with the help of a planner! Thankfully, there is this amazing platform called Lover.ly that helps with the process immensely! Drawing inspiration from their wedding dress feature, Breann created the most amazing wedding day look! We were immediately drawn to this gorgeous, romantic piece. The gorgeous trumpet silhouette and delicate lace perfectly spell out what it means to be a classic bride.UntitledIMG_1051When creating this bridal look, I wanted something romantic and ethereal. I was super inspired by the classic shape of the dress and wanted to go for an upscale glam look but instead of dark, smokey eyes, play on the youthful waistline and create a fresh face and shimmery eye.  My makeup inspiration immediately came from Interstellar actress, Jessica Chastain. Every time she’s on the red carpet, she glows.

I wanted to compliment the material of the gown and go for a dewy skin and flirty lip. Sonia Kashkuk’s Perfecting Illuminating liquid foundation does the trick. A light sweep of this blush bronzer duo tops my face off with the perfect amount of color – a blushing bride, if you will. We kept it simple on the eyes, nothing too heavy. False eyelashes create a focal point, and the light use of cream eyeliner compliments them perfectly. Finally, this YSL lipgloss finishes off the look. The coral pink color perfectly compliments any skin tone, and because it’s a lighter, it reduces the need for constant touch-ups like a berry or red lip color would.

IMG_1053  IMG_1052When it came to the hair, I wanted to keep in the same line of a classic bride. French twists have been a bridal staple for decades. I opted for a looser version, and added my own twist by creating a dutch braid on one side. What’s great about this style is it can be accomplished with long or short hair, and all you need are a handful of bobby pins and some hair spray. It can be beautifully topped off with a hair accessory like an antique clip, flower cluster, or a veil with a comb can slide right on top. Untitled 3
